Danes, 18. maja, obeležujemo mednarodni dan muzejev. Že leta 1977 je Mednarodni muzejski svet ICOM zaznamoval 18. maj kot mednarodni dan za večjo prepoznavnost muzejev v družbi.
Mednarodni muzejski dan se letos posveča temi Prihodnost muzejev: okrevanje in novi izzivi. Letošnja ICOM tema namreč želi opomniti na ključne spremembe v naši družbi in okrevanje v času epidemije covid-19. V okviru letošnje teme sporočajo, da so muzeji aktivni člen sprememb, da ponujajo premislek o odnosu do skupnosti, soočajo se z novimi izzivi dela in modeli kulturne kreativnosti. Muzeji se morajo tudi zavzemati za ustvarjalni potencial kulture kot področja izzivov ter inovacij v izgradnji pravične in trajnostne prihodnosti.
Vsako leto mednarodni dan muzejev z različnimi dogodki obeleži tudi vse več muzejev po Sloveniji. Že vrsto let se jim pridružuje tudi Mestni muzej Idrija. Na današnji dan je obisk vseh njegovih objektov brezplačen. Posebej pa muzej vabi na ogled gostujočih razstav, in sicer likovne razstave v Cerkljanskem muzeju KUD Trata Gorenja vas z naslovom Sova, skrivnost, učenost, razstave mozaičnih miniatur Silvestra Bajca v Mali galeriji na gradu, v okviru katere bo danes ob 17. uri na grajskem dvorišču organiziran prikaz izdelave mozaikov in javno vodstvo avtorja po razstavi. V Razstavišču Nikolaja Pirnata na idrijskem gradu pa je na ogled fotografska razstava Rafaela Podobnika o rodnoverski snovni dediščini.
